LUIS SERRANO BIO
Luis Serrano graduated from the National Ballet School of Cuba with the title of Dancer-Teacher. He began his career at the National Ballet of Cuba and was later hired by the Nina Novak Classical Ballet (1992-1994), the Youth Ballet of Venezuela (1994-1995), Principal Dancer at the National Ballet of Caracas, Teresa Carreño (1994-1998), Principal dancer Miami City Ballet (1998-2007).
Mr. Serrano received training from such luminaries as Ramona de Saa, Adria Velásquez, Mirtha Ermida, Magali Suárez, Pablo More, Laura Alonso, Lázaro Carreño, Nina Novak, Irina Ivanova, Sandra Rodríguez, Elaine Kudo, Vicente Nebrada, Twyla Tharp, and Edward Villella, among others.
Performance Experience

Performance highlights include Don Quixote, Blue Bird, Diana and Acteon, Paquita, Corsair, Coppelia, La Bayadere, La Fille Mal Gardee, The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Giselle, Spring Waters, Raymonda, Romeo and Juliet Pas de Deux, Esmeralda Pas de Deux, Flames of Paris, among others.
Mr. Serrano has performed pieces by renowned choreographers such as Vicente Nebrada, George Balanchine, Twyla Tharp, Paul Taylor and Edward Villella, Donizetti Variations, Raymonda Variations, El Cascanueces (Balanchine), Prodigal Son, Ballo della Regina, Who Cares, Sylvia Pas de Deux, Rubies, Dances at the Gathering, Funny Papers, Fancy Free, Nine Sinatra Songs, Push Come to Shove, Piazzolla Caldera, Muñecos, Majísimo, Company B. (Tico Tico), Ballroom, Gismanti Brasil, Carmen, and many more.
In addition to his work as a dancer, he has taught at various schools in the United States and Venezuela: the Teresa Carreño Theater School, the Tiwy City Ballet, the Miami City Ballet School, and currently at Alchemy Ballet Academy in Herndon, Virginia.
Throughout his career, Mr. Serrano has had the privilege of receiving numerous awards and recognitions for his contributions to the world of dance. Some of the highlights include:
- Bronze medal at the USA International Ballet Competition (1998)
- Municipal Dance Award for Best Classical Dancer in Venezuela (1996)
- "Casa del Artista" Award for Best Classical Dancer in Venezuela (1996 and 1997)
- Gold medal in the UNEAC Contest in Havana, Cuba (1991)
In addition to these accolades, Mr. Serrano has been honored to participate in prestigious international events such as:--
- Gala of the 25th Anniversary of the USA International Ballet Competition (Jackson, MS 2004)
- Ballet Gala (Hawaii 2003)
- International Festival of Havana, Cuba (1996)
- San Francisco International Festival, USA (1995)

These experiences have not only shaped Mr. Serrano as an artist but have also provided invaluable opportunities to collaborate with dancers and choreographers from around the world.

Mr. Serrano arrives in Mexico!
In his seven years as Artistic Director of the Monterrey Ballet (2007-2014), Luis Serrano staged such classic works as Giselle, The Nutcracker, Coppelia, Don Quixote, La Bayadere, Swan Lake. His original choreography includes “Nicotina” (solo), “Minueto” (solo), “Romanza” Pas de Deux and “Perfidia” Pas de Deux. The latter two were presented by the Miami City Ballet. He also created “Huapango,” the BdM label, which premiered at the Joyce Theater in New York; and “Synergy,” a choreography that shows the union of forces, rhythms and movements.
His most recent works are "Danzón" and "Intermezzo,” pieces that are part of the ballet "Mosaico Mexicano" and were created for the first European tour of Ballet de Monterrey held in March 2011.
In 2015 he founded the Luis Serrano Dance Studio and Luis Serrano personal training. In 2019 he received the invitation from the Board of Trustees of the Monterrey Ballet to lead the company for the second time as interim Artistic Director, where he remained until 2021. Other recent projects include CuBallet Mexico, where he served as Executive Director and instructor, along with Laura Alonso, founder and Artistic Director of the international CuBallet course.

Welcome to Virginia!
In September 2023, Luis Serrano relocated to Northern Virginia where he is proud to be working as co-artistic director, teacher and choreographer with Artists in Motion and Alchemy Ballet Academy, with a primary focus on developing the new Alchemy Ballet Company which is scheduled to debut at Capital One Hall's Vault Theater in Spring 2024: May 12 and June 14.
